Locke is just walking back upstairs, humming to himself, when something makes the hairs on his neck stand on end. He turns, abruptly, to look over his shoulder, but nothing seems to be there, at least nothing obvious. He stares, for a while.

"...the fuck?" A quiet noise behind him like footsteps on a loose board, and he wheels again, hand going to one of the hidden knives, feeling more and more nervous.

It did, and he's just scanning the walls, because he doesn't know much about what Bondsmagi can do. And he really doesn't want to find out more. "You shouldn't have any," with just the slightest emphasis on the first word. One of the knives vanishes, though.

"Alright." But still ready to disarm. "Looking for something?"

"Yeah."

[ninja_niko]

"A creepy crawly on the wall?" Niko's tensing. Darkling.

"No." Flatly. "Bondsmagi. Shut up, would you?"

You know what, Locke? Niko doesn't quite give a damn about you, as long as you're not going to threaten him or his brother.

And he's looking at the room, though once he's sure there's no banshee lurking, he's going to go and inspect another one.

He has no need to waste his time on paranoid freaks. (Pot and kettle, we know the song.)

Locke doesn't mind. He's going to be here. Very. Nervous.

"Locke?" Real footsteps follow the phantom sound a few moments later and Valen appears around the corner. "You alright?" He's a little concerned by the nervousness though truthfully he's more than a bit on edge himself. Something just feels wrong in a way it hasn't before.

He shakes his head slowly. "I don't know. There's something..."

"Yeah." He nods as he goes up to give Locke a quick kiss on the cheek. "You feel it too?"

He moves a little closer to Valen because - Valens are good things. "Yeah. I think so. If we're talking the same thing. It's...I don't like it much."

[cursed_bent]

"Neither do I." He puts an arm around Locke's shoulders as he looks around, scowling. "Like there's something that wasn't there before, hovering. Someone. They shouldn't be here."

Locke twists, abruptly, at a sound over his right shoulder, but there's absolutely nothing to be seen.

"--it's driving me crazy."

Not saying that when Valen talks like that it makes his skin crawl, a little.

Valen's not really thinking of the way it sounds coming out of his mouth, he's distracted and it's more stream of conciousness. "Me too. It's...they don't feel alive. It's almost like...it's like whatever it is, is already dead."
