Gareth is most likely at the cottage, looking around for something. Growing impatient, he calls to a brother or a wife or a sister or whoever's about, "Has anyone seen--" and stops. For it didn't come out as he meant it, but for some reason, he can't bring the English words to mind.

"I cannot understand everything thou sayest in that heathen language," patiently.

Mordred scowls. "I don't have the patience today. I really don't."

"Nay, do not go from me in anger."

"What is the matter with you?" suddenly exasperated.

She frowns at him. "Not to me in such a voice."

He seems to remember then that Ragnelle, after all, is of the Neighbors, and subsides a little.

A steady look, and then, with a great summoning of her small store of magic, she says as best she can in his Orkney Norse, "Brother, the words are not as they were."

A long pause. "I see that."

"I cannot understand thee. I can only speak, and it pains me. Do thou try to speak to me with thy hands, or otherwise."

"So now I'm being 'witched in my own home," sullenly. "Wonderful."

Ragnelle gives him a Look and lets go the taut hold of magic, shaking her fingers a little to get the uncomfortable tingle out.

At which point Lyonors comes rushing in, to see the door bang shut. She looks at Gareth in perplexity.

"Mordred is sulking," he offers by way of explanation.

She blinks at him -- although this is not so odd, since she never did pick up the Orcadian dialect. "Say't again?"

He returns a look of equal confusion. "What?"
