Well, it's deer-hunting season.

And this here is a fine, big buck. Was a fine buck. Well, still is, but now it's a fine, dead buck (through a bullet to the head) and currently hanging from a tree, in the process of being skinned (and butchered) by Hawkeye.

He's also got a fire going (a decent distance away) so he can cook the meat and jerk the rest ( Read more... )

Well, obviously the smell of meat brings a wolf, who looks surprisingly human. She is holding her knife, still wary from her last encounter with an unfriendly stranger, and crouches down, peering at him from between the trees and watching silently.

Hawkeye can tell there's something out there -- but it's not attacking, and besides, the fire scares of most animals.

But still, his previous encounters with some of the animals in these parts cause him to put up his guard a bit, though he continues at his handiwork seemingly unaffected.

She examines him for a few more moments, notes the gun, notes the knife, and most especially notes the buck. Finally, she slips out of the shadows, staying a safe distance away, and examines him a little more closely. "Hello," she says, finally. "You have been hunting?" She is human, for the most part. Just with a little bit of wolf in her movements and her face.

"Evening, miss." He gives the skin a good tug. "An' that's right, Ive been hunting. Else how'd you think I'd got this fine fella, fishing?" He chuckles a bit at his own joke.

Tom walks by and of course stops to admire the deer. "A fine beast."

"Musket? Musket? You think I'd hunt deer with a musket? No sir, I use a rifle," he gestures to Killdeer, leaning against a tree, "And it's a fine one, finest I've ever seen. Finer'n any gun you've ever seen."

See, Luther likes Hawkeye.

Which accounts for why he's suddenly beside him, though it's a gentle suddeness--Luther doesn't aim to surprise--a presence, an old man as naturally here as if he'd always been.

Hawkeye is a bit surprised by the suddenness, but, seeing as Luther's not doing anything, goes about his business as if he were still alone.

And Luther, silent by nature, observes, and is clearly there to help as soon as his help is asked for.
