He wakes up in a corner of the main room. There are sticks and leaves in his hair, and his clothing is torn in many places and stained with mud. He could use a shave, and probably some sleep. More than that, though, he could use some idea where he is, or whose mansion he's entered while he was sleepwalking.

Tentatively, he calls, "Hello?"

And Tom is flopped down on a couch somewhere nearby. "Hello!"

"... Sorry."

He all but shrieks in frustration. "Our uncle is dead! They have no one to care for them but me--"

"Calm down, please!"

He closes his fists and calms himself, getting shakily to his feet--his posture is that of a man who is bone-weary from having run all night. "I apologize for my outburst, Mr. Jones. I am very far from home, with no way of returning, and no way of providing for the women of my house. This does not excuse my conduct, but it does, I think, explain it."

Tom also gets to his feet. "I... I'm sorry that I can't tell you more. Can I help you find a room?"

"I am afraid I have no money--I am lucky to have woken in my clothes, and not my nightshirt."

"I don't have much in the way of money either, but you'll find that everything is provided for us here."

"Without charge?"

[notallworthy]

"I don't think so. I haven't seen the servants or the master of this house."

[edgar_huntly]

Edgar nearly follows him, but hesitates. "There is no danger to the occupants of this place?"

"Ah." Tom pauses. "Well... just... just be careful. There are men here who are dangerous."

[edgar_huntly]

"Savages?" He looks down, the tom-hawk at his waist in the corner of his vision. "Or savage Christians?"

"I'm not certain if they are Christians, but they are savage. And stay away from the wizards."

[edgar_huntly]

A firm nod. "I will be on my guard against dangerous persons and charlatans alike."

"Good. Would you like me to show you around? It looks like you could use some food and sleep."
