"Bonjour, monsieur."

He bows and smiles. "This is most certainly not London though most of us can get from here to there."

"Oh. Are we far? It's the oddest thing but I've...I've no idea how I arrived here. Wherever we are."

"It depends on what you mean by far, monsieur." Armand seems amused but not really at this new young man's expense. Not really. He's not that mean.

"How many hours by coach?" Richard is clearly confused, but doing his best to remain polite in the face of his complete lack of reference points.

Livia winced at his raised voice.

"Yes, hello. We're here. Stop shouting."

"Oh, Miss, I'm sorry. I didn't see anyone here. Forgive me." He paused a moment, not quite sure what to say next. "If this is your home, I'm afraid I've stumbled here quite by accident."

"So have we all," she said dryly. "This place is a magnet for the accident prone."

"So...are we in Ireland then?" He did not wish to offend her further, as she already seemed a bit prickly, but Richard was a friendly and polite young man, on the whole, even while confused.

Clearly another Dickens character must greet him. She's lovely and distant as she rises, carefully to curtsy. "Here, Sir."

An Englishwoman is most welcome, and he bows in return. "Miss. I would not have arrived unannounced except, well, to be perfectly frank, I did not entirely intend to arrive here at all."

"We all arrive with no warning to our host, with no idea as to who our host is. And most of us have no intention of arriving. It's an odd sort of place." She explains, "You are at no fault, Sir. May I get you anything?"

"I... I am not entirely sure, but I thank you." He shakes his head, then extends his hand. "I am Richard Carstone."

And always happy to see another gentleman David approaches and gives a polite nod.

"Good evening sir."

"Good evening." Richard returns the nod. "It seems to be the habit to arrive unexpectedly, so I suppose I should stop apologizing for it. Richard Carstone." He offers his hand.

David gives a brief chuckle. "Yes I suppose it is rather." He offers his own hand back to shake, which Richard may or may not notice is rediculously cold. "David Talbot, pleased to make your aquaitance." He gives him a friendly smile.

He smiles in return, as he shakes David's hand, face clearly open and friendly. "A pleasure, sir. So you are yet another guest of an unknown host, I take it? Are you from London, originally?"

Here, then. Have a lady of Victorian London!

"London, sir? Oh, have you just come from there?"

"I have indeed, Miss. Are you from London as well? A strange sort of place, isn't this?"

"I am, but I've not seen it in months! Oh, how was it?" She smiles a bit. "It is, yes. But not entirely terrible, either."

"Much as it always was, I imagine. Full, and busy, and dirty, and rich." He smiles in return. "London is London."
