Spade was smoking a cigarette as usual, and had been watching the entrance hall most of the morning. Quite a deluge of new arrivals. But this new man looked intelligent, and reacting in a way that seemed much more normal than most.

And so, the tall, angular detective stepped out into view. "Seems to be the question, doesn't it. I've been trying to find out for days now, and I'm still not sure." He indicated the gore with his cigarette. "You need that looked at?"

Strelnikov puts a hand to his head, which still seems to surprise him. "Maybe not...." He doesn't smile but he isn't hostile. "A change of clothes maybe."

Spade nods. "Come on, we'll find you a room. It should have what is charmingly called a 'plothole.'" Spade shakes his head. "And yes, I realize I am not making sense. It's contagious around here. But I'm sure you want a place to get cleaned up, regardless."

Something about the shock and unfamiliarity makes him less suspicious than normal. He'll be glad to get into something clean. "That would... be appreciated." He'll follow Spade to a room and at least strip out of his coat and start trying to clean up.

"Well, it's not hell, though it sometimes seems like it is." Pasha will get a nod and a raise of the bottle. "Welcome to the madhouse, monsieur."

Pasha rubs absently at some of the gore in his hair. "Madhouse?" Then after a beat, he peers. "Are you French?"

That gets an extravagant bow -- amazingly enough, he doesn't spill the wine. "I am indeed, citoyen. Grand R, at your service."

Again that choice. Who was he? Didn't he just kill Strelnikov? Or was that Antipov.

"I am... Pavel, from Yuriatin, which is in Russia."

He stares, and then smiles a bit uncertainly. He's surprised she doesn't seem to care about the gore. "Hello... where is this place?"

Most people call it The Mansion. *has seen worse, apparently, and isn't bothered with it*

"It does seem... big." He seems to be chosing his words carefully. "I well, had a bit of an accident."

"Certainly not Russia," comes the reply, from a young man who doesn't look particularly bothered by this revelation.

"Everything is too clean to be Russia," was Pasha's unthinking automatic reply. Then he looked closely at the man who'd spoken to him. "Are you an exile?"

There's a faint pause at that--he'd never wanted to be czar, but he is now, and he can't really change that fact, but this isn't Russia. "I suppose you could call me that, yes."

"I'm dead." Although clearly he wasn't. "This is better than the Bolshevik's, I think."
