We deal with some of the worst. We deal with it at all hours, in all conditions, at all times. We risk our health and even our lives for complete strangers. Oh hon....I am so sorry you had to experience this...what a horrible burden....but please...don't carry this burden, this guilt, more than you should. We are not gods--sometimes life and death is beyond our ability to affect or stop--it simply is, even at times (sadly) for the young. You are not at fault when Fate takes one from your grasp and you have done what you could. But of course, it is hard to tell the heart what to feel at times...

Grieve, but then let it go. You do important work that just not anyone can do. This sort of guilt, however, over the passing of a child or adult--even one that was so close--can ruin you in this work--and we NEED people like you to continue to save those that you CAN save....

You have my prayers, my dear. And many hugs. Be well.

Thank you.
Intellectually I know nothing could have saved that girl. Some injuries are too grievous for there to be any possible recovery and this was one of those cases. But that knowledge can only carry you so far.
Heard from one of our managers who is working with our coworkers family that the mother was glad my partner and I where the ones there to try an save her daughter. I don't know if that makes it better or worse.
Just in a world of hurt right now, but working through it.
I have a few days off work, we will see if that is going to be enough.

I'm so sorry you had to endure this loss, too.
