Notes: It's been a few years since I've drawn anything, but I wanted to participate in this year's
spn_j2_bigbang after I didn't make the writing deadline. It was a lot of fun working with
forestgreen, who wrote a fic filled with images that had serious emotive force behind them and just called out to be drawn. I hope these pictures do her work justice, and you enjoy our combined work!
One of the things that broke my heart in "Counting Tuesdays" was Dean's isolation. We don't spend a lot of time with him, but we're always aware of his absence. This picture didn't come out too well visually, but I wanted to include it because it did work thematically. I originally drew it in color using chalk pastels, and when that didn't succeed, I took it into Photoshop, stripped away the color and added a circle crop. (My artwork lives in fear of me.)
If Dean's loneliness is a huge chunk of "Counting Tuesdays" then so is Sam's horror. This shot could take place in the graveyard, during the YED's big reveal, or it could be representative of his feelings throughout the story, as his options narrow. I used a graphite pencil and only Photoshopped it enough to enhance the scan and crop it.
This was the one image I especially wanted to make for this fic, because the description in the story made me very, very happy... for obvious reasons. :D It's charcoal pencil, no PS effects except for some basic scanning corrections and the crop.
Now, if you haven't already, go read
Counting Tuesdays and leave
forestgreen some feedback! :)
