Got myself a
greatestjournal this afternoon. I don't foresee switching there any time soon, but figured it'd make a good backup just in case. Please feel free to friend it if you have one too!
That said, I hope it never comes to fandom having to move off LJ. I like it here. It's the center of my fannish life.

This has always been clear to me, it's probably because I live in a place where fandom is really, really small, and so far from the common feelings that I will never even bother explaining it, least I want to look like a stupid geek at minimum or a pervert at best.
What makes me sad is the creative energy this whole thing has robbed us of: how many fic/art/vids/metas/discussions/porn will never see the light of the day because of that?
I have added you to my GJ, had it set up from last year shut-down.

To be honest, I always knew I'd look like a geek if anyone found out about it, but the idea of being thought a pervert hardly occurred to me. I guess most everyone in fandom approaches the erotica with so much maturity (not to be confused with enthusiasm! *g*) that it seems like it would be difficult to misjudge us based on that. I mean, there's a certain amount of good taste exhibited here. My definition of perversion (not a word I would have likely used before anyway) is way narrower than it was before I entered fandom.
The lost creative energy is frustrating. Luckily, it seems things have died down a bit. *sigh of relief*

While it's all good that LJ are trying to fix things and keep us all updated, it's a little too late for most. The lack of communication between LJ staff and LJ users was appalling.
You think it'll never happen to you, but instead of WFI it could have easily been some extremist religious group looking to ban anyone with 'slash' as an interest, among other things. Think of how many journals would have been deleted then?

And yes, the lack of communication made everything worse. I get the impression that a number of people were on vacation or out of town, and I hope that's all this was, that it was just a case of the competent people (and maybe the only ones with the authority to issue statements?) being unavailable. But that's just my best-case-scenario optimistic guess. Not LJ's greatest moment.
Think of how many journals would have been deleted then?
That's what had me nervous at first! Because either everybody's protected, or nobody's safe. Sadly, I'm sure many people would equate slash and incest. Never really considered the implications before now, though.
