New eps at last ... I guess

Jan 05, 2006 23:40

Okay, it's Thursday night, and we all know what that means. Yes, "Spirited Away" on Turner Classic Movies! One of the all-time great full-length anime movies (and I have no qualms about calling it so even given how recently it came out, it's that good). Apparently, TCM is showing Miyazaki movies all month on Thursday nights, which means I may get ( Read more... )

It totally explains the Sam/Martin thing. I don't know if it's my slash immersion or what, but I read Danny and Martin in themselves as gay characters. Even if they didn't have chemistry and weren't meant to be together, I'd still think of them that way, as fundamental to who they are as individuals. Partly, it's the way they're written, as aging bachelors with no girlfriends who emote quite a bit (not to stereotype or anything). The other part is likely what the actors themselves bring to the roles, which is harder for the PTB to put a lid on ( ... )

In another forum there was a similar discussion about why they are not teamed up anymore and the obvious answer is just that: not to give any opportunity for slashy subtext.

But it's also plausible that the electricity generated by EM and EC on camera together cannot come off as anything but what slasher fangirls already see plainly. Bad writing is such a disappointing end to the mystery; conspiracy theories are so much cooler.

I totally agree with you and Neko: you can't stop chemistry, the only solution is not to have them together and talk to each other anymore. As a Danny/Martin obsessed, I hate it.

Sorry for the intrusion, today I decided to read the slashers comments, and here I am.

On an up-note: I'm a happy Danny-lover today! A good Danny episode talking about his vibes. And is it me or they colored Martin's hair with a reddish horrible dye?

No intrusion at all! You're quite welcome any time.

Which is a damn shame, if it's true. I've been thrilled at the positive representation gays are getting in tv and movies in recent years, but this would be a disappointing side effect of that new awareness.

You're right, though. It was a good Danny episode. We learned more about him and got to see a lot of him. Not sure about Martin's hair, though I'll probably be squinting at the tv next time, now. ;)
