Triple Drabble

The sailors of course reacted with superstitious fear to the female fish-human hybrids that had been following the ship for days. Stephen did try to reason with them, to convince Jack to let him take a closer look at them. He was denied, of course, under the pretence of safety reasons. Upon pointing out that the school had kindly offered to look after his well-being and promised they would not let any harm come to him, the captain had merely mumbled that no woman who did not cover herself properly could be trusted, no matter how charmingly she sang. Stephen chided him for imposing his cultural standards on these creatures, though he suspected Jack might deny his request out of hurt pride, as the only women they had seen in months, exotic as they may be, only showed interest in Stephen, ignoring him completely
