One of the women he assaulted at Arisia is a friend of mine, and was at least talking about playing in Shadows of Amun. I don't know whether she is one of your players, but in either case this is absolutely the appropriate way of dealing with the situation.
I am not a player in Shadows, but I am married to one of the writers and I am a survivor of sexual violence myself, and I find I am in a similar head space about this.
it is a very fine line to walk, trying to create a safe space for others and yet trying to judge an absolute truth which will never be known by anyone but the people involved.
i do not envy any of you having to go through this. i am glad that the game has a 0 tolerance policy, I think there is no other way to be. I hope that somewhere else in the universe there is a path left open for the offender to put his best self forward, for him to make amends if he is sincerely sorry, that redemption is an option so that he can move forward in a better way-but I am glad that the people in this circle are protected.
With respect, this has not been an emotional decision.
You have not seen the absolutely excruciating process we went through to get a neutral and unbiased viewpoint in order for us to make our decision. I can assure you it happened. It's why it's been a week before we said anything. Your accusation may have merit for people running cons who have pre-banned him when he has not ever intended to attend, but it does not have merit for us.
We have even spoken with Dustin, who withdrew from game himself when we asked him about it. Regardless of his proactive withdrawl, he is still not welcome to return.
I did not allow myself to feel this fury and rage until now, until it was all over. Now I am. I am entitled to fall apart now. And that falling apart has nothing to do with what went on before.
I know you and I know you are a analyst and a questioner of the status quo. It is why you drive so many people insane. :). It is also why you are valued. Trust me please when I tell you we made an utterly logical and correct decision.
