Doctor Who: What I THINK will happen, what I DON'T think will happen and what I HOPE will happen

So, last night, I spent about an hour or so chatting to mcalex22 about what's been happening to us lately, the travelling we've both got planned for next month, why the last season of Supernatural rekindled her interest in the show but lost mine and, towards the end, some of the reasons why we are both approaching the second half of this year's Doctor Who ( Read more... )

I like the way you think! I especially love the idea of Rory dying and then coming back one final time, and riding off into the sunset with Amy. YES. Please, show, please give him this! I think you've got an excellent point about Moffat shipping Rory/Amy, not Amy/Doctor. In general, I'm not too fond of Moffat's focus on romance since he took the helm of the show, but on the positive side, I think you're right that he is probably not the sort of writer who's going to permanently separate a major couple. So ... fingers very much crossed that your predictions come to pass!

I am crossing my fingers so very much for the "riding off into the sunset" ending for them.

You know that I'm not much of a shipper in any fandom really, but I really want Rory to get the girl of his dreams because he loves her so utterly. For better or worse. For richer or poorer. In sickness and in health and BEYOND DEATH! Several times over!

And Moffat's last season finale was the happiest fairytale season finale ever! His trademarks seem to be either ghastly cliffhangers or happy/bittersweet endings. There was at least one series that he ended with a big Downer ending, but that was a very adult show and he knows that Doctor Who is a family show and he writes it with the kids in mind.

(As an aside, I recently read an interview where the reporter asked him if he thought his plots were too convoluted for kids to understand them. Moffat asked them "Did your kids understand what was going on?" The reporter admitted that their kids had no trouble with that. So Moffat said, "There you go then. The plots are complicated so you have ( ... )

Oh, I like your idea! Very much! I really like the idea of Amy sacrificing for Rory as a bit of a turnabout. And I like the idea of them living on after the adventure ends.

I'll agree with your cautious optimism, too. Moffat doesn't seem big on ripping hearts to absolute pieces. I'm going to trust in that. :)

As much as I fear giving hope and them having it taken away (didn't the Doctor say something along those lines in Neil Gaiman's episode?), I'm clinging to my cautious optimism.

So, yes. Please, Mr Steven "Everybody Lives!" Moffat, stay true to form! PLEASE!!!

And I so very much want Amy to make a big sacrifice for Rory. I've never seen her sacrifice anything for him really. Even when she "killed herself" (and the Doctor) in the Leadworth dream of Amy's Choice it wasn't because it was something Rory wanted her to do. His last words had actually been for her to take care of their baby (which implies that he was asking her to live on) and she crashed the van to "die" and get out of that dream because she felt that she couldn't live without him.

So, up to this point, Amy has only demonstrated her love for Rory by choosing him. She has to go one better than that and sacrifice for him. Until she does that, she not entirely "worthy" of the devotion he's demonstrated time and time again. IMHO ;-)

Hm. Very interesting. I admit to a fangirlish desire to see everything end happily and with no more dying, however I also am one of the folks that greets every announcement of a casting change with "holy cow, why would they do THAT" and then totally buys into the new character with little internal discussion and no external acknowledgement that I ever did anything other than love the idea :) (Big D's comments and wry observations are as easily disregarded...) and so, I have come to the conclusion that as long as it's a showrunner I trust I'll just have to trust that he won't suddenly pull a rabbit out of a cocked hat that throws the logic back into it.
Reading your discussion, it seems that your story planning fits with what we have come to expect of the Grand Moff. I am "remembering" this, as I am looking forward to seeing how closely you and the series continue!

I haven't always been to readily accept cast changes in my favourite shows. But these days, what I want for my fave characters includes a satisfying story arc and I accept that for most characters that usually means a beginning and an end. The Doctor is a bit of an exception - only he's not because regeneration also means that he has similar "chapters" to his life, each with a beginning and an end.

Anyway, I've always known that the Doctor's companions will eventually leave the Tardis and I want Rory and Amy to do so after completing a well told story arc. There have been characters on some shows that I have originally adored but eventually found annoying because the writers ran out good ideas but just kept going. Rory is one of my favourite Tardis travelers ever! So I don't want that to happen to him.

Besides, if characters are written out of the show in a good way, we can still enjoy further adventures via fanfic. LOL!
