A book you should read, related to the theme of your dream.
Specifically - and I know this was a just a dream, but anyway... - the culture you are imbibing is Western Geek culture. This means that you would be instantly at home - and accepted - in any gathering of engineers, IT specialists and other knowledge workers.
This is analogous to, in ancient times, reading your Homer and your Virgil so you could mix with Roman administrators.
So then, does that mean you usually dream in black and white? I've heard some people do that. I've always kind of wondered what causes some people to dream in color and some people to dream in black and white. :)
There is very little conscious perception in terms of colors or words in dreams, so if you had colors, you'd know there are colors, and you won't exactly see them. When you close your eyes and think about a person, say--Link, you see a representation of him. When you dream about Link, you see the concept, and not a particular Link (Wind Waker/OoT/TP) unless seeing that Link is the conveyed concept.
It's sort of like that. If you can tell that there are colors, it means there might be something wrong. I feel I may have schizophrenia.

But I'll take your friend's word for it.
But let's go with pseudo-psychology for shits and giggles.
