So my uncle on my moms side has just been diagnosed with celiac disease. Basically means he's forced to eat glutton free foods for the rest of his life or else his intestines will begin to shut down (again). No beer. No cake. Hardly anything good ( Read more... )

My nephew has that, but there are tons of good foods. I tried his pasta and cookies and all the cool special foods they buy for him, and they were all really good. :)

I'm not a doctor, but I think my family history shows this may be true. What I've heard about food allergies (like celiac) is that having a relative with one makes you more likely to develop a food allergy, but not necessarily the same one. In my family for example, my grandfather has celiac as well. Ditto my aunt. Me, I can eat wheat just fine, but I've got a dairy allergy, which is, imho, just as annoying ( ... )
