The last time I read a story that had this much of what seems to be deliberate vagueness, I didn't really like that story because it was too vague and it didn't do enough to keep me interested. On the other hand, I really like what you're doing here! It certainly piques my interest enough for me to keep going even though I don't know some details I'd consider important, which isn't something I'd usually do.

That's totally understandable. I myself hate vague stories, so I'm sure that this will be as bad as it gets. In #3 things will start to make sense and be tied together, and hopefully it will all be uphill from there.
