A lot of people impact the world in many ways...but some also have that elusive quality...charisma. One such, I think, was Steve Jobs.

One of the best accounts of Jobs' life that I've read was in Time magazine:

Dennis Ritchie's passing was indeed a great loss, and it was not much of a surprise to even us geeks as he was quite far removed from the glare and adulation of the media and the masses. While the iPod and iPhone are virtual in the hands of millions and the thoughts of millions more, a several such innovations have been silently helped along by DMR's contributions. But to stick to Jobs, add this post is about him, he certainly was a visionary beyond comparison, a Peter Pan like character who never lost his boyish enthusiasm and spirit. RIP, Steve Jobs.

I really should pay attention to what the auto complete comes up with and trust technology a bit less! That last comment is ridden with howlers!
The other thing is, I meant to say that 'the muted response to DMR's death did not come as a surprise to even us geeks... :)

You mean that apart from paying attention to the article, you need to pay money to read it too? ;)

Haven't read the article, but have paused several times to admire the genius and courage of S Jobs. I imagine in years to come he will be looked on a little like Edison for example, someone who had ideas and follow through that completely changed how most people live everyday in our world.
