After a very long time, we had a local BULBs (Bangalore Urban LadyBirders) outing (it was beginning to seem as if they went only on international trips!), and we decided to go to Manchinabele Reservoir.

As usual, the day started with fog and mist:

The raptor photos are magnificent and you were quick on the shutter button!
:)
The green bee eater (do they really eat bees?) is so pretty! It's rare to see green birds that aren't in the parrot families.

Oh, we have plenty of them here...the White-cheeked Barbets and the Bee-eaters are very common indeed.

Of course they eat bees!...and dragonflies and other insects...so expertly plucking them out of the air.

Q. What do you call a very young Bee-eater?

A. An egg-beeeater!

Couldn't resist that...

You caught the sun on the marsh harrier's wings--wow!

Like pondhopper, I was attracted to the green bee eater. (Also the little red-rumped sparrow!)

Good trip! nanda_ramesh January 5 2011, 05:10:16 UTC
Nice shots, esp of the Harrier and good moment with the Silverbill. :) I see that you saw some storks also.
Where did you drive around? We usually take first right and drive along the tar road on the right side(from the main road) of the reservoir. I have only gone about km or 2(limit of my kids patience :) ) though before turning around.

We generally take the same route and drive about halfway around the perimeter of the reservoir, but we didn't get that far this time, we were out of the car just about a km or two, as you say...and never got around to going where the army huts are.

Like I've said before - these are not SMS. The Marsh Harrier snaps are amazing!

Thank you...wait till I get back to the SMS (by the way, that's where I would classify that shot of the Sparrowlark.)
