Tusks and Trunk....

We saw this beautiful tusker (probably about 35 years old)...on the banks of the backwaters of the Kabini, as we took our evening boat ride yesterday...

Several elephants, actually...the one drinking water, the one eating bamboo, and the mother and child walking along on the river bank.

I love the delicacy of the elephants' trunks, how they are so precise in what they do with them, and how the trunk curls, especially in your photos--it looks like a shell.

Magnificent. I love the close-ups in photos 3, 4 and 5. Where is the baby elephant you mention in another reply? How does one tell the age of an elephant?

Now...it's the last video. The male with the tusk is about 11 years old, it's the calf. The mother keeps the calf by her side until it's about 15...sounds familiar, doesn't it!
