One of the places that typifies Pondy Bazar, in Theagaraya Nagar (no one EVER calls it that, it's only referred to as T.Nagar! More about initial names for areas later)....is

Sri Balaji Bhavan

...there's been a restaurant (in Tamil Nadu we call them "hotels") around on this spot for as long as I can remember.

Wow,

I have lived in T.Nagar from the time I can remember...very close to Pndy Bazzar...Lovely clicks and lovely post.this place can never c hange...ever....with so many ministers and cops and cleanng and chasing , it has never changed in the last 20 years...why now???

Baalaajee Bhavan remains my favourite even to this day. If I go to Pondy Bazaar it is unlikely to return without a snack in Baalaajee Bhavan..
I think the Bazaar was known as Soundarapandian Bazaar but later got shrunk to "Pondy", but this needs citation as I am not 100% sure.

I share the same thoughts as you about police, however friendly they might be..

OK, done deal...next time I visit Chennai we go to Balaji Bhavan together for KT ...Kaapi Tiffin, or PLM...Plantain Leaf Meal! I don't care that you live on the other side of town and work faaar away....we MUST meet!
