I feel like I've made the journey--without the exhaustion! How peaceful Eli looks, gazing up at her mother in that one pic. *She* has it easy, in the stroller.
About the boats--it's to prevent critters from one lake entering and contaminating another. It's a big deal in the northeast, where they're trying to keep a certain sort of algae from spreading (and also larger things, like zebra mussels). But when you say it, it does sound odd, doesn't it--washing a boat before it enters the water.
The flower you saw growing everywhere is fireweed, I think. (Called Willow herb in England.)
