Walking around in the Jayanagar 9th Block market, quite literally smelling the roses, smiling at the people whom I buy regularly from...buying crisp apples, firm oranges (oh my, that sounds like that lovely dirty song from "The Duchess and the Dirtwater Fox"), pomegranates (which some fruit shops spell as "pome granite"), juicy pears...looking at

pome granite--very cute. A granite fruit.

Here, right now, all the maple trees are in flower--a green, inconspicuous flower, but it smells lovely. (It will be a while before roses are out!)

in Japan, in spring, they have "hana mi" which is to go and watch the cherry trees in bloom...

Bangalore has, thanks to great administrators in the past (not the present band of rascals and rogues) something called "serial flowering"...every season, there are different kinds of avenue trees flowering. We just had the cassia, tabebuias, and jacaranda finish, and now the Gul Mohan (also called the May flower, guess why!) is painting the roads with both arboreal and roadside carpets of bright red.

I am sure there must be a wiki about this....

Firm oranges? I thought the mark of a good santhra orange was that the skin was loose of the flesh inside.

the oranges HAVE to be "loose" (my cousin Kamala, the first time she travelled up north by train, was disagreeably surprised to hear orange vendors at the stations yelling, "Loose Kamala! Loose Kamala!"...but yet firm...very "giving" orange peel means fruit past its prime. These are the nitpickings of a housewife...

btw are you still in Laos, or back in Indostan, or somwhere else?
