I felt really bad when debbieann and charleshaynes rather suddenly pulled up their stuff and left Bangalore; I was, of course, able to keep in touch with them through their LJ's, but when I realized they were going to be back in Bangalore for a few days, I was very keen to go and meet them. That's the scale on which mirchi is rated...

At the bottom at 0 is Capsicum and the hottest one is Naga Jolokia found in Assam/Nagaland/Manipur.

I know the Scoville scale,but what I want to know is whether the local chilli varieties have specific names....

and another thing I find intriguing is that chillies are called "Lanka" (or, rather, lonka!) in Bengali...now would that tie up somehow with Sri Lanka?
