My first reaction was - "How can these people be so stupid". But then, the First Cumming thing set off a train of thought that explains it... We had a classmate in college who was quite naive and uninformed. There was another nasty guy who used to use a lot of expletives. This naive dude didn't even understand what some of the expletives meant, and he used to keep referring to the nasty dude by some of the expletives ! It was soo embarrassing to us; he didn't realize what he was doing, and we couldn't educate him without falling in his eyes... In the case of First Cumming, it could be exactly this situation. The powers-that-be are probably not aware of their faux pas, and those of their fraternity who actually know whats happening cant do something without debasing themselves... Go Tahoe has no such excuse though ! :-)

Your comment reminds me of the pure Victorian lady, who, upon hearing a particular 4-letter word, fainted dead away. While everyone was trying to fan her back into consciousness, a little boy asked, "But that means she knew that word, how did she find out?" Indeed!
