Just amazing. So lions don't usually sit in trees, but these ones do? It's fascinating. You were so lucky! But what a treat, after all the bad luck with the tigers!

Checking out the videos next.

Thanks for all the comments on them, too! At different times, I missed different people. Whenever there was a sunrise or a sunset, guess who I thought of!

Several times, when birds would take off, I thought of sainath; when taking scenery shots, I would think of shivakumar or dearchichi....the crested snake eagle made me think of kalyan...the elephants, yathin, the black mamba, mamtanaidu...and so it went!

I especially love the 5th one down, where he's peering out from the side of the branch.

Well, apparently some lions do the same thing in Uganda too, but "usually" lions don't climb trees.

Lions are quite plentiful in the Ngorongoro Crater area and in the Serengit and there was no way we could miss them ...but yes, sighting the tree-climbing lions was indeed a bonus!

And even more so was the sightings of the leopards, once in the NCA and again in Lake Manyara, because they are secretive, nocturnal creatures.

However, lately, in the environs of cities like Bangalore, loss of habitat and prey is increasingly responsible for leopards straying into the suburbs. See anushsh's post about the leopard in the town of Hosur, about 40 km from Bangalore.

I certainly wouldn't advise you to do any cuddling up to either of those two...it could really be the last thing you do.

But agreed, they looked pretty tame, even though that was deceptive! The lion looked at us so calmly and disinterestedly...that within minutes we lost all fear of them and were clicking away.
