After looking in on BarCamp3 , I decided to walk back home along Bannerghatta Road...and a very illuminating two kilometres it was, too

I live on this part of the road and have a long sad story to tell you. There are times when you have to climb down the so called "footpath" as the choice is between downing in an open drain or being hit by a passing vehicle. And 5 minutes on the road and I spend the whole day coughing from all the dust and exhaust. But most people I say this to look at me strangely because even to the neighbourhood shop they only take their cars.

This gives me such a vivid picture of Bangalore. Such an amazing set of contrasts. I can see it in my mind now, like I never could have before. I think you have just described the 21st century to a T: electrical transformers... and skinny cows...motorcycles--and stray dogs. Amazing.
Very well written...couldn't agree more! A week after I arrived here, I tried walking to Pondy Bazaar from Thirumalai Pillai road. My dad had come along with me and I had Akhil in a carrier. I had to constantly watch the bad road, non-existent pavement and horrible traffic. At one point, the pavement was completely dug out and I had no choice but to walk bang in the middle of the road (as the rubbish from the digging was thrown on the corner of the road), but a huge PTC bus came roaring and I ran and somehow went and stood on that rubble! That is the last time I even attempted walking. Sigh. This is not the Madras (or India) I grew up in.
