Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary Visit, 4 Nov 2006

Nov 07, 2006 14:20

....

It was a little difficult, after having got home from a Sangeet ceremony for someone's wedding, and gone to sleep at past 2 am, to leave at 5.30 am...so we sort of managed at 6 am instead. We followed AMS' excellent directions and found AMS, Hassath and Ammu waiting for us on the Jaipur highway, and proceeded to the Sanctuary.

Lots of pictures and the account under this cut. Some were taken by KM,some by me, and several by Abhijit, so I can't give proper credits... )

'I didn't know birds could be so aggressive towards mammals'

Remember 'The Birds' (Alfred Hitchcock)? :-)

I am a bit jealous! I haven't been out with a group of experienced Birders since LAST YEAR! Great pics. I love the galloping Nilgai and the White Throated Kingfisher is awesome.

well...plan a trip to India next winter and I promise to take you birding with the best birders I know (and whom YOU do, too!)

Loved the photo of the crane. The post made me want to run away from the daily humdrum and bond with nature. Luckily we have a long weekend coming up at the end of the month....

Oh, that's perfectly OK...you are into birding/wildlife when you stop referring to "common eagle", "parrots", and "rabbits" and start calling them "black kites", "parakeets", and "hares"!

I am not terribly keen on precise names ..it is more important to me that people enjoy the sight of the birds and get interested! Believe me, I open my book at warblers and there are 7 pages of them all looking quite alike to ME...and I am expected to tell them apart after spotting them for about 2.26 seconds....

There ARE cranes, of course...the most beautiful is the Saras crane.
