I've been musing on the way we interact with other human beings, all through our lives. Of all the relationships we have, those that involve love (and especially, romantic love) are praised to the skies in all our cultures and literature, and held in high esteem

Reminds me of the saying that people come into our lives for "a reason," "a season," or "forever." The "reason" could be as little as a quick chat that puts a new idea into our head, the "season" could actually be a couple of years, and "forever" is just what it sounds like. But all of them are valuable and help build our lives.

If someone is growing in your life or decreasing contact, they may be beginning to move from one category to another. And that's okay too. Time passes and things change.

Each level of relationship has its own importance in our lives. I agree with you that acquaintances are never mere....and the good part is that life is never static, or shouldn't be.
