Wow, that was super dark but plausible in the world of the show. I love the way you give such broken glimpses of the world from Max's POV. And then the end. Great writing!

Hee, thank you! I actually posted Special on FFN and a couple of people wanted to know what happens next - I honestly had no idea and had no plans to write any further. Then the scene at the end hit and I knew I had to write it.

In a distance, she heard her Ben running through the woods, calling out to her; ordering her to run, to go with his double.

I totally got goosebumps right there - Dream!Ben and Real!Alec like working together to save her. Dream!Ben feels so real and alive to me in this. I also got excited when Joshua showed up and then all worried when he and Alec didn't make it out.

I was hoping stupidly and totally girly-like for 10,000 more words of Alec and Max raising a baby named Ben together. But then..omg, then...this...When Logan did he felt small drops of beads or buttons drop into his palm. When Alec was finished, Logan looked down to see what it was.

And I knew. I knew right then. And I was like flailing everywhere. I love that your last line is just...human teeth and then it Ends and omg.

Brilliant. Just..brilliant.

YAY! I'm ecstatic it worked for you.

I know I had a brief moment of Alec rescuing Max, and together everything would be okay, Alec would make it okay. But everything White did for months, it was just too much on top of a lifetime of abuse (Manticore life). For me, there just was no fixing it.
