The gritty sort of stuff is a texture set to multiply, and the ones where it's just a box off to the side is just random textures on normal lol.

I absolutely LOVE the slightly gritty effect you have on a lot of your icons, especially the Velvet Goldmine one. The slightly fuzzy vintage look is great. I also love the way you do text (like in the first Supernatural one, and the icon I'm using now :P). Your subjects are also awesome, you have good taste in those.
