Help. Under attack from kittens.

I had to barricade myself in my bedroom this morning. No kidding.

My evil genius kittens have figured out how to open doors. They jump up and pull on the door handle until it opens. You know that scene in Jurassic Park where they say they're alright until the raptors figure out how to open doors, and then the raptors do just that? That's me with ( Read more... )

:D Welcome to the club! One of my cats used to do that, and my former professor has a cat (her name is Brownie) who not only knows how to open doors, but has taught other cats how to do it too!

Do your kittens still have their claws? If yes, it is exactly like that scene from JP.

Yep, declawing is illegal in the UK, so they're all clawed up. Might ask the vet to trim them when they go in for the big snip though.

They are such smart little things, aren't they? My son has an English mastif, that my cat is positive he can take - luckily for him, the mastif seems to agree. It's hilarious to watch this huge dog cower from the cat. Luna, the dog, has been taught to bump her nose against the door knob when she wants to go out. Sky, the cat, saw her do it once, and the next thing I know, he's reaching up and knocking the door knob with his paws, asking to get on the back porch (screened in). He's seen her bumping against doors to push them open, and he does that now. The husband taught him how to pry open a door that's just pushed to, and we have lever door handles on some doors, instead of door knobs, and he tries to get them open. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But you never know when the cat will suddenly be there on the bed when he's not even supposed to be in the room!

Sounds like you have lever style knobs on the doors. Change them to actual knobs and I bet it'll be a lot tougher!

In the meantime, that's ultra adorable!

BWAA HAAA HAA HA! Welcome to servitude under your feline overlords. BTW, my two finally ground us down (years ago) and they sleep with us now. One, the 20 pounder, at the foot of the bed and his sister between our heads. How did they wear us down? Have you ever heard a 20 pound cat banging on the bedroom door? Alllll night long? Every night until hubby gives in? Yea. They are very craft and will always find a way to get their way.
