Of Kirk and McCoy...

I'm trying to figure out why this time round I've been completely bitten by the Kirk/McCoy bug. I can't quite understand it. I mean, it was always Kirk/Spock. Always. The entire show, all the movies...it's Kirk/Spock. Hell, pretty much the entire plots of movies II and III are about Kirk and Spock's epic love. And this new reboot, it's all about

But... but it's Kirk/Spock!!! The original slash pairing! I felt like I was watching history being re-written (I LOVED the film) and was angry with the Spock/Uhuru thing on behalf of all those K/S people!

I didn't really like the Spock/Uhura thing - not because I really have a problem with Spock being involved with anyone other than Kirk (who am I kidding? of course I have a problem with that!) but because I couldn't see any way past the fact that Spock as a teacher was involved with one of his students, and I just could not see how Spock would behave that inappropriately.

I still ship Kirk/Spock, don't get me wrong. That's the granddaddy of all slash, right there! I just, I don't know, in this incarnation, at the moment, I prefer Kirk/McCoy.

Of course, that's not mentioning my real hardcore ship, which is Kirk/Pike. But there's not a lot of that out there, and I think there's only a few twisted souls who share that with me

I'm totally twisted with you. And for some reason, I can't read the Pike/No.1 fics. It just doesn't click for me. So I have to settle for reading other fandoms when there's no Pike/Kirk to read. (I would write some if I actually thought I had writing talent).

Pike is actually one of those rare characters (pretty much the ONLY one I can think of off the top of my head) where I will read him in any fic, any pairing, because I love him that much. I've read Pike/Kirk, Pike/McCoy, Pike/Spock, Pike/Number One, Pike/Gaila... I'd only say I actively ship Pike/Kirk though.

What can I say? I just love Pike!

I liked the Pike/McCoy I read, Gaila kinda scares me, so I steered clear of the Pike/Gaila one. I haven't come across any Pike/Spock, but then I haven't been actively looking. I've enjoyed the Pike/George/Winona I've read. But with No. 1...maybe it's because it's been so long since I've watched The Cage, or anything else TOS with Pike. I don't remember her, so it's difficult to visualize. I'd picture her as an OC, but she's not and my brain can't get around that.

Oh God, so with you on that. I've read massive amounts of both pairings for the reboot fandom and... think I'm feeling the Kirk/Bones more. Which surprised me but yes! the friendship! Someone I got a rec off mentioned how it's basically crossgen - they're not physically that different in age, but mentally it's a whole different ball game: McCoy is a proper adult with an ex-wife, possibly a daughter and Kirk is a deeply-immature 20-something year old (depending when the fic is based.) It makes the dynamic really interesting.

Have you read ethrosdemon's fics that I recced the other day? I love them so so much, they're exactly how I want their relationship to be. And there's none of that frankly-inrealistic "Kirk is sexually monogamous" crap either - yeah, right.

I've found that this is my gen fandom. I didn't think that would EVER happen, but I love all the characters so much that I actually don't care who's getting with who so long as we get awesome and adorable snark. And yeah, I love Kirk/Spock because WOAH sexual tension but the thing I always loved about TOS (first the idea of it, and now the actual thing having finally freaking seen some of it XD) is Spock and Kirk's Epic Love Story BFFness, which isn't in the reboot. Which is fine, they're really all different characters and I adore the conflicted start we're getting, but I don't see it as TRUE LOVE FOREVER (yet, at least. I SAID, YET!). As with most ships in this fandom, I don't really have an opinion either way on McCoy/Kirk - I'll happily read it, if it's in the fic (even if it's the focus of the fic) but I won't really actively seek it. It's more like... "Oh, this author is really hysterically funny and look! They wrote another fic! It happens to be McCoy/Kirk. Oh well, bring on the McCoy/Kirk then", but the same goes for pretty

Why Kirk/Pike? I don't really know, to be honest. Probably because I just adore Pike, and I love the slash, and I have a real kink for twisting mentor relationships and in this movie at least Pike doesn't really have an onscreen relationship with anyone else!

Haha, fair enough. I think it's really interesting how different ships work for different people, and the reasons (often without really thinking about it) people have for liking a ship, is all.
