I think it's an excellent book, though at times Jonathan himself annoyed me a bit. BUT it's very well imagined, and I love that stuff happens in York! :D

I remember the first time I read it I ended up carrying the book around with me for days afterwards, and it took ages for me to find something else to read after it - the impressions it left in my mind were so strong I just couldn't quite let go!

This isn't a book I'd ever read -- I just don't enjoy historical settings -- but I've seen a fair number of folks on my flist mention how much they've enjoyed it. Thanks to your post, I was finally prompted to head over to Amazon to read some reviews, so at least now I know what they're talking about and why they enjoy it.

I think I'm going to enjoy your book reviews. :)

I know a few people who just couldn't get into it at all and don't understand what the fuss is about - I think it's one of those books that really polarises opinion, but I just adore it.

I - just couldn't finish it. It is, in fact, possibly the first and only book I have ever given up on - I really wanted to like it, but it was so bleak and - I dunno. I failed. :S

It isn't an easy read, I'll grant you, and I guess the tone and style of it could be pretty off-putting for some. Me, I found it really lent depth to the book. I just ♥ it SO SO MUCH.

I loved it too. The kind of book you stay up reading until 4:30am because you can't put it down! *joy*

Yeah! The first time I read it I was carrying it with me everywhere - I would read it whilst cooking, in the bath, on the toilet, on the bus, during a spare five minutes at work. I could not stop reading if my life depended, partly to find out what happened, but partly because I loved the world so much I wanted it to be real!

t's the kind of book you lose yourself in and you look up once you've finished it and it takes a moment for the world around to readjust around you and you have to remind yourself that there is no English magic.

Exactly!
I love this book so much!

Isn't it just wonderful? It's interesting that I've been posting book reviews for nearly two years now and not one review has got as many people commenting as this one!
