Ashes to Ashes tonight!

I really can't decide how I feel about this. Excited and apprehensive and disapproving all at the same time? It's Gene Hunt, which is entirely of the good, but it's sans Sam, which is entirely of the bad, and...it could go either way, I guess? It could be good, I could really enjoy it, the UST between Gene and Alex could be sizzling, but...it's not ( Read more... )

Yep, starts tonight! I loved Life on Mars so much - I honestly think it was one of the best TV shows in years - and I'm really going to miss Sam. Part of the fun of LoM was not knowing why Sam was there and figuring out what was going on - there won't be any of that with this series. It just seems like they're trying to recapture some of the LoM magic with added sex appeal by having a female instead of a male lead. :(

I feel pretty much the same way as you about it tbh....looking forward to it but dreading it at the same time. I can't see me obsessing over it to the same extent as LoM and I don't like the fact Matthew Graham et al have already been talking about the 'sexual tension' between Gene and Alex. If they need to tell us there's supposed to be sexual tension between two characters before it's even aired, then there's something wrong, or they're just under-estimating the perceptiveness of the audience. Or they're just trying to shoe horn it in. I doubt there will be as much genuine sexual tension between Gene and Alex as there was between Sam and Gene, and that wasn't even an express part of the plot.

Sorry that was quite a ramble :p But erm yes, I suppose I should reserve judgment until I've seen it.

No, I agree. Deliberate sexual tension just annoys me. It should be a natural thing that arises from chemistry between the actors and the audience picks up on. Playing it with the fixed idea of sexual tension is just false and unconvincing. Plus I resent being told who to ship!

Awesome, I knew it was coming out soon but not today soon (I never got around to finding it out this week ;))
I'm seeing it as a totally new series, just happens to have Gene in it (I did the same with Torchwood) so hopefully it is good :)
