A new focus for my dissertation...

I had a really good meeting with my dissertation supervisor today, and on the strength of that I've decided to shift the focus of my study somewhat. Rather than focusing specifically on the law as it relates to fanfiction, which would end up being a bit dry and legalistic, we're shifting the emphasis more onto the perception of ownership -

I really like this idea... I'd never really thought about it like that; it makes me feel empowered! :D

The Serenity issue in particular is fascinating; as well as how quickly we fans can turn sour when the "real" owners get it wrong, or stop caring. Jar Jar Binks being a case in point :P (though... I liked him. I thought he was cute *flees*)

I think in most cases we fans don't think consciously like this, because OF COURSE we don't own this stuff. Except...maybe, in a tiny part of our minds, we do. Emotionally. We love it, after all, and they make it FOR us. Right
