First world problems...

I think I'm having American withdrawal symptoms. This is almost the longest I've been without a trip to the States in a decade or more. I was out in America in 2004, 2006, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014 (yeah, I am so spoiled). I miss my American friends. I miss my American sunshine. I miss my American food ( Read more... )

New York, yes! I have been idly planning a solo trip to New York again - I've been before a couple of times, but I've never had the opportunity to do the stuff that really interests me, the more historical stuff - it's always been the usual tourist stuff.

I go to Florida a lot, because one of my closest friends is in Orlando and until recently my aunt and uncle had a house just outside of Tampa. Another good friend is in Texas, so I've been there a few times. My dream would be to do the Southwest - I'd love to go to Monument Valley and Zion National Park and Sante Fe. And Vegas!

I am pretty convinced I was also born in the wrong country -- maybe we were switched at birth (although I just looked at your profile and that is actually impossible because I am older than you). But I never get homesick for the place I grew up, while I miss London quite painfully in a way that really feels like being homesick, even more so since my trip there in January. I used to tell myself that I'd still have all my same problems and would still be the same person if I moved there, but being there kind of drove home the point that there is a lot of stuff there that makes me happy, and that stuff is patently Not Here.

It's that sort of sense of recognition and belonging, isn't it? Or where your personality and interests seem to fit more.

I know I could never live in America - I'm too English for that, and I know it! - but I do so love to visit.
