Invasion and conquest...

author_by_night was discussing a writing prompt (Which historical event, person, or time period should become the next big television drama?) and my response was that the Norman Conquest would make an amazing TV series. And once I started thinking about it, ugh, it really really would.

That would make a great show!

A friend and I had a similar discussion recently. Sweden had a pretty colourful Royal history in the 16th Century with madness, sibling murder, forced marriages and at least the rumour of a king murdering his quees. Could rival The Tudors. :D

Yes, definitely Kristina! Actually, the Vasa dynasty would make a great dynasty series. Beginning in 1520 with Danish invasion and the Bloodbath of Stockholm when the Danish King (charmingly called Christian the Tyrant in Sweden. In Denmark he is known as Christian the Good…) invited a whole bunch of Swedish noblemen to a party and then chopped of their heads. Then the uprising lead by Gustav Vasa, ending with him being crowned king, bringing the Reformation to Sweden. He was married three times and the rumour falsely said he killed his first wife with with a hammer. He then married a young noblewoman who was already engaged. When she died (though they seem to have had a pretty happy marriage), he married her niece. Of the four sons who reached adulthood, three became kings and all of them had some kind of psychological issues. Magnus was so mad he was exempt from inheriting the crown ( ... )
