Or New Netherland, as Woodward calls it. :grins: He argues that the Dutch founding had a profound influence on the region's character, since at the time of settling New Amsterdam the Dutch nation was probably the most advanced in the world, and the settlement had a strong emphasis on global commerce, freedom of speech, press and religion, tolerance, multiculturalism, and that it was the New Netherland region that insisted on the Bill of Rights' inclusion in the Constitution. So, bravo the Dutch! And New York. :)
