Not to quibble, but the actual cause has not yet been fully determined. The doctor there indicated that it was a problem with the tubing, not the drugs.

I'm not a death penalty proponent, but can say that after reading about what he did, it was a fitting death (he shot a woman and then buried her alive, the other guy who was to be executed two hours later had raped and killed an 11 month old). That said, I'm still not for the death penalty and not because it's brutal, but because there's too much of a risk of innocent people being executed for crimes they did not do.

What he did isn't the point - the point is the execution was botched and he was effectively tortured for the better part of an hour before his body couldn't take it and he died of a heart attack. I have no sympathy for him facing the death penalty (although I disagree with the death penalty on principle - if taking a life is murder, then the death penalty is just judicial murder and it's utterly hypocritical) but no-one should suffer a death like that, and certainly not at the hands of the state that supposedly sits in moral judgement.
