Well, that was a disappointment...

I'm not saying I wanted to get battered by this storm system that's currently working its way across England and Wales, but after all the 'storm of the century' headlines I was quite looking forward to seeing it. I was only four at the time of the great storm in '87 and I don't remember it at all. Apparently I slept through it under the kitchen ( Read more... )

On our side of the world they're talking about the prospect of the worst bushfire season for decades - only where I live we just hear about it, not live through it. Which is good, really.

I remember the Great Storm of 1987 a bit too well. I was woken up by the lovely sound of a tile sliding off the roof and then the roaring of the wind kept me awake all night. This was nothing like that.

Ngl, I felt the whole thing was being hyped up far too much. Scotland gets hit with storms like that all the time and no one really says much about it. It is sad that people have lost their lives over it but yeah, it was a lot of hype for what actually came.

Be careful what you wish for. In NY unless you actually live on the water you rarely have damage to property during storm season. It's now a year later and there are still people who haven't moved home because of hurricane Sandy. I live about 10 minutes from the bay and 25 minutes from the ocean and the water came up to our door step (a good 3-4 feet above the ground) and went with out power for almost 3 weeks. We were the lucky ones. You think being near extreme weather is cool, until you're so close that it's devastating.
