Home is behind, the world ahead...

I'm sitting here listening to the score for The Hobbit, and oh my God, I can't even tell you what it feels like to be back in this world again, listening to this, the familiar cues and musical themes. I think when I hear this and see the film begin in the cinema I may actually cry.

I never got the "It destroys my favorite movie/series." How? People will still have the DVDs at home. Nobody will be sneaking inside their houses and stealing them. It won't taky anything away from the huge success that was LotR!

The same thing is going on with the nu!StarTrek. Its haters are all up in arms and whatnot how it's destroying the show's legacy etc. I finally lost it and told them that if they didn't like it, they still had 4 shows + movies worth of DVDs, nobody's forcing them to watch the movie. Sheesh on a pogo stick! Like children, really.

My son is one of those who is basically writing off the movie before seeing it. In fact, as of the other day, he wasn't planning on seeing it. His feeling/fear is that in stretching the story out to three movies, then the pacing will be too slow and the first movie won't get past the dinner party at Bilbo's house.

Not me. I am so eagerly looking forward to seeing this. Although, unlike my younger days, I'm not going to be determined to see it the first day. But definitely before the 21st, just in case the pessimists are correct about the Mayan calendar and the end of the world. Having seen "The Hobbit" would be a rather nice last memory to have!
