I caught the end of Little Women on TV earlier, and it got me thinking about Jo and Laurie. Is there anyone who ever read that book or saw the various movies and was happy that Laurie ended up with Amy? It's just not right! Laurie and Jo, it's the way it was meant to be. Yep, it's one of those examples I use when someone tries to tell me The Author Always Knows Best... like hell they do :(

I could be imagining this, but I'm pretty sure that I read something, somewhere, not long after the movie came out, that readers of the book sent letter after letter after letter to Louisa Alcott protesting the fact that she did not put Jo with Laurie. I can't remember now what her replies were, although I'm tempted to go the route of her wanting the book couple to resemble her marriage in real life, since Jo was based on her. But it was neat to know that even back then, fans were not always happy with what a writer did with a character (or characters).

I never liked Amy. Never. And the fact that she ended up with Laurie just seemed like she was given a treat for being a wench. She didn't deserve him, and he disappointed me when he married her. I thought he had better taste. But then again, I was disappointed that Jo didn't love him back. Her rejection hit me a little hard too.
