When sail racing, you always think about where you want to be ten seconds, fifteen seconds, thirty seconds out. Half of a short race is over a good minute or so before the starting whistle blows, as you jockey for position and try to hit the line just a second after the shrill sound of a race beginning. Embracing the now and when (rather than the now and then) is what does it.
But yeah man. All we can do is roll with it. Embrace it. There is no stopping time. There is also no saving time. There is only spending it, and we get to choose whether or not to spend it wisely or foolishly. Charging down over the tips sounds pretty punkass though. It sounds like spending time wisely.
CHARGE IT! I've re-found the same thing with skateboarding. Speed makes everything better and riding not to fall is a sucker bet. Once I got my feet back under me and know that I know what to do when stuff goes wrong I have a better run going for it. I still don't feel indestructible but I'm having a great time.
Oh... And when you flail on skis (I think of this as being in the air feeling like your going to land on your back) throw your hands forward like a double punch. It will put you right most of the time. Watch some footage of world class downhill racers and they do that in the air consistently.
but remember denny - sometimes it's ok to fall, how else are we gonna learn anything if we don't? (which is what i keep telling myself every time i get off the lift - someday i'll figure it out!) and take it from a pisces, you can never dream TOO much :) cheers to 2008!
"Instead of skiing the hill, I was trying to stop a fall."
ooooooooooooooooooh that's exactly what I'm doing, too!!! And it's wrecking my poor body from fighting so hard. Let's promise to team up on Weds (or is it Thurs?) to make each other ski the dang hill in 2008.
