I've found over the years in my various fandoms that trying to get art thieves to properly credit artists is a losing battle. To them, as long as something is on the internet, it's fair game. I guess what we artists need to do is put our credit clear across the art, blatantly, even if it mars the look of said art. Something needs to be done, even if it continues a lost cause.
I just hate the hypocrisy, pretending to be supporting and "family" and all that while treating said "family" like a "less" than human, not deserving of any respect.
"Ahh, so cute and hot, amazing pic!" "Would you please credit the artist?" "What the fuck? How dare you?!"
That's the worst. People like that have no respect for fanworks of any kind and have no idea of the simple proper etiquette that we expect in fandom. And the atmosphere of Facebook doesn't help. Facebook is more outside the mainstream fandom than say LJ or Tumblr or AO3. They think just because they are 'outside' the mainstream that they can operate outside the rules. Because no one will call them on it. And when you did, you are the one that got booted. I am pissed on the behalf of those artists who were stolen from and on your behalf as well. I've made fanworks, as have you ,and the thought of someone taking something I made and reposting it somewhere, where I lose control of my own work, where people can leave comments or praise to the reposter and I will never see these comments - the more I think about it, the more livid I get. But good on you for standing up, babe! Good on you!
Reminds of that one time when somebody asked me on my meme if they can post the comment fic somebody wrote to wattpad because it's just SO awesome and has to be shared! O.o I'm like uhmmm, no? Because that would be plagiarism? And no writer with more than two brain cells to rub together would allow it either? And there are links that you can use to share the fic with?
FB is worse than any other site because their ToU are fucked up when it comes to fanworks and it's almost impossible to take stuff down because you have no actual admin to contact, other than the automatic system (which will tell you to go fuck yourself because it doesn't violate their ToU).
I hate the attitude of these people, especially the fact that they pretend to be the victims in the whole thing. It's why I started posting my stuff with watermarks right through the whole picture (like the Darth Maul poster). I hate doing it but I don't have another option.
