2k to 10k and Fun with Data

Back in June, I referred to Rachel Aaron’s 2k to 10k blog post, and commented that I have trouble tracking my word count at different times and locations because I don’t go straight from blank page to written scene. But that hasn’t stopped me from trying, and using the result to make some plans…

A couple weeks ago I read Aaron’s 2k to 10k ebook Read more... )

I may be ready to start writing again in the New Year, so I'll be thinking about how to fit writing into my life again. This will be an interesting challenge because in the past when I was productive, it was done by spotting spare periods of time in an otherwise busy and rigidly scheduled day. Now I'm semi-retired, I am responsible for organising my time as I see fit.

Regarding your morning writing slots, it will be interesting to see whether losing them affects your productivity. Though you weren't producing words, it was bringing the story back into the forefront of your mind. That does help me produce more words at the next actual writing session, but it might not work like that for you.

I'm still deciding what to work on at lunch in the morning. Or the evening before, and reminding myself in the evening.

It can be easier for me to squeeze writing time in on a busy day than to get it done when the day is wide open. Weekends are never as productive as I'd like them to be. I hope you will do better!

I still keep data! Not as often--mostly to make sure I still write about 500 words/hour when drafting, so I know how to plan my time. (Yep, still 500 per hour. Never gotten any faster. I just bought this ebook to see if it helps, but I have to say, it's quite plausible that my number is really my number, not having changed since 2003...)

Data is fun. :)

I'll be interested to hear if you find the book helpful, since that 500/hr is so ingrained, and I I ago e you have a good idea of what makes you productive.
