Gen Con Recap

Aug 10, 2011 09:10

I’m definitely going back to Gen Con next year. I met a bunch of great people who I’m not going to list because I know I’d forget someone, bought books and a toy dalek for myself and some games for the kids in my family, attended interesting panels on writing and books which I’d be mining for blog posts for the next month if I’d taken better notes ( Read more... )

Wow. For a very brief write-up, it sure sounded like a great time. "Renewal" is GORGEOUS and mesmerizing. I added that book you mentioned to my read-list. The whole museum sounds amazing. I'm intrigued by your description for downtown Indianapolis too. Might have to make a weekend roadtrip of it some day. I'll be in touch if we do, to see if you're free to join us.

The Mud Hens were playing on Friday right across from my hotel.

That would be a fun weekend. If you go let me know and I'll join you.

Since you're asking someone who's not a gamer, all I can say is that it was in the Lord of the Rings card game that came out this year (I think).

Which has no hobbits. I'm still complaining about that.

OK,it can NOT be called a Lord of the Rings game without having hobbits in it.

no, can not be done.

nope, no way.

could be a marketing ploy.

a few years back, with the arrival of D&D 3, the initial monster manual left out several very common creatures (or at least very often used by the GM). These were spread out over the next few volumes, partly to ensure that the subsequent volumes were purchased.

perhaps the hobbits will be in some kind of booster pack.

Any con that involves battling Nazgul sounds a little too dangerous for my taste...

given that Gen Con is a first and foremost a war gamming convention,

Nazgul are among the weaker things you'd face.

Warhammer 40K has undead troops in powered armor with high energy weapons.

depending on the version of Traveller you're playing, the standard ship vs ship missile is a multi megaton nuke.

then there on the various breeds of superhero games....

There were probably things around there that would have caused to Nazgul to need a change of underwear and send them cowering under the bed.

Still would like to know more about her encounter with said Nazgul.
