It is so sad, but this is absolutely what needed to be written too. Of course Jack isn't going to welcome Ianto back without reservation, and of course having his memories returned makes more questions come up than it solves.
Oh, I loved the ending. You mean, horrible, person you.
I've loved the entire work, even if I didn't comment much. You've done a spectacular job with a difficult two write story (three different Jacks? - not easy) and, I especially love the dealing with the return and what to do now.
Hey, one xtricks comment is like, five regular reader comments. SRSLY. I'm glad the (almost) end works, though. After all that wait I am more than a little nervous at how it'll be recieved.
It's that first section, where future!Jack has to say goodbye, that hurt. After that, I kept holding my breath, wondering what was going to happen.
Poor contemporary!Jack. I feel for him. I really do. And I feel for Ianto who's seen two Jacks that aren't broken and lived with them for two months and has to come back to this.
The urge to shake is not ill-placed, Ianto. Grab those shoulders and agitate.
You know, there's a reason that I always like the last parts of series the best. It's because (if they're good), they have to deliver all the realisations of what's come before, one by one - like hits to the solar plexus. And as the author's been setting them up the whole time, you're just waiting with bated breath till you get them. You know they're coming, you even know pretty much how they're gonna unfold. But the actual fact of them - if you're me, you can just read 'em over and over. So yeah. Rock
( ... )
Thank you so much for your comments, especially telling me what you loved. As someone who has also done a lot of the dreaded LDR, writing that particular bit was really hard. I really ran both Jacks through the wringer on this chapter!
oh Jack, you've got no idea... that's nothing...
Someone... lifty? Pointed out that technically, a Jack who'd lived from our series straight through until the 51st century would actually be more like 5000 years old, once you take into account the events of EW. To which I said "yep. old!Jack is a lying liar who lies".

Well done, you. Harsh and raw and just what the doctor ordered.

And I have just noticed all the italics from the text disappeared. DAMN. That part takes forever.
*grumbles and goes back to work*
