John knew his limitations so he was quite happy to be banished from the kitchen while Zoe tackled the turkey. Instead he was in the living room with the tv on to the Thanksgiving Parade mostly because Grace seemed fascinated with it, waiting for the boys and their dates to arrive ( Read more... )

Dawn knocked on the door, trying to balance the cheesecake she'd made the day before with a bouquet of flowers and straighten her skirt at the same time.

It was possible she was a little nervous.

Sam watched Dawn and reached to try to take something out of her hands, to help her balance. "Relax. It's not like you've never met my family," he teased.

"I know, but this is a family holiday thing," she said, handling over dessert. "It means something different."

"You have to remember that Winchester family holiday things aren't the same as most people's. I mean, when you talk about Thanksgivings you've had before, the stories seem to include your friends. Isn't that a family holiday type thing too?"

Zoe peeked in at the turkey again, making sure it was cooking properly, before coming out of the kitchen looking for John. "Does she like the parade?" she asked, watching Grace with amusement.

"She seems to like the balloons," John replied with a smile. "How's the turkey coming?"

"It's starting to smell good, so I think it's going well," Zoe said. She stood back for a moment, admiring the sight of John with Grace, and tried not to think about how close they came to not being able to experience this moment.

"That's always a good sign," John agreed. His attention had been on Grace but he looked up and caught Zoe watching them. "What are you looking at?" he teased.

Dean walked up with Meg. "I promised Zoe I'd help out with the dinner, but you can play with Gracie or have Sammy entertain you when I've disappeared in the kitchen," he said.

"Fine by me. I don't think you'd be able to stop me from playing with Grace." Meg said, smiling. "She's so cute."

"She is, isn't she?" Dean said with a wide grin.

"She's going to be a real knock-out when she's older." she said.

Meg took a seat in the living room, her attention more on Grace than on the TV.

Dawn sat down on the floor, pretty much with the same idea in mind. "Hey," she greeted Meg. "Happy Thanksgiving."

"Thanks. Happy Thanksgiving to you too." she said. She was sort of relieved to have Dawn here with her. It made the whole meeting the family thing less awkward.

"So, cutest baby ever, you think?" She grinned over at Grace.

Dean wandered into the kitchen. "So what can I do to help?" he asked Zoe.

Dawn made a beeline for the fridge and some soda and grinned at Dean over her shoulder. "I really like Meg. Also, Happy Thanksgiving. It's getting very Norman Rockwell in here."

"She's pretty cool, isn't she?" Dean said with a grin. "She keeps surprising me with how cool she is, which isn't a bad thing."

"No, it's not." If she was smiling at Dean being ever so slightly dorky over Meg, well, she figured she was entitled. "As long as you're happy and she doesn't make me want to strangle her in her sleep--which she doesn't--I'm thrilled for you."
