Would you feel guilty if you ate something non-vegan in a moment of weakness?
You know, I would. Very good point. I think the issue I have with this is that "Indulge yourself without the guilt" inplies guilt over the caloric intake rather than guilt that a vegan would feel if she ate some cheese. I think that the idea that people should feel shame over junk food is what gets me.
Junk food, in itself, is not very important. Shame over junk food feels wrong to me. I don't think there's anything wrong with indulging in moderation, and certainly I think that we, as a whole, ought to make healthier choices, but I don't think people should feel consumed with shame if they have a handful of chips, especially if they're taking care of themselves otherwise.
I did a search for the word "vegan" and your entry came up because of the comment that was left by boilingbabies... but I would like to say that I agree with you, that you shouldn't have to feel guilty about food. Even if you were vegan and had a moment of weakness (which I am, and have had) it's perfectly natural to indulge from time to time, and we as humans shouldn't force ourselves to feel bad about our choices. Besides, I have found that my vegan moments of weakness have also usually resulted in, "eew. That's just not as enjoyable as it used to be. I've not been missing out."
I never enjoyed those kinda of body washes, anyways. I always thought they were awkward. I never wanted to smell like icing or cake. I'd rather smell like eucalyptus or lemons.
But those are my 2 cents. I enjoyed that part of your post. Tschüß, stranger!
i think that people should feel guilty about food. Food isnt here to make you feel happy, its here to help you survive. A cupcake offers little to no nutrients that your body requires... so yeah... you should feel guilty about putting it into your body. its like putting water into your gas can... its not going to do anything good for your car at all.
And clothes only exist to keep you warm, and trees and plants only exist to convert carbon dioxide into oxygen, and music and art and literature serve no practical biological purpose whatsoever. So don't go enjoying any of those things!
clothes, trees, music, art and literature dont harm you. they enrich your quality of life. im not saying dont enjoy food... im just saying that food isnt there to make you feel better about your life... there are foods however that have positive effects but they sure as hell arent a cupcake. eating healthy will increase the quality of your life... eating junk wont. if you feel great about eating junk food than im sure you'll feel even better when you have liver disease, diabetes, heart disease, cancers and other degenerative diseases that come with obesity and lack of nutrients.
I'm not saying you should subsist solely on junk food, and I do think that one cupcake a day is probably enough, but if you're taking care of yourself by getting enough sleep, getting a moderate amount of exercise and getting your 8-10 servings of fruit and veggies every day, then you should eat a cupcake if you want to,

I think people feel more shame than guilt for eating junk food. If there's really much of a difference anyway.

It's hard to explain, I guess.
