Nightmare Before Christmas would be higher if this was a Halloween movie list...second only to Hocus Pocus, in fact. But like I said, while it has the spirit of Christmas flavor in it don't associate it as strongly with the season as I do, say, some others of these.
I agree, I'm torn on whether to consider Nightmare Before Christmas a Christmas or Halloween movie... it's both and neither. :D I used to watch it on Thanksgiving, further confusing things!
I've seen: Nightmare, Year Without a Santa Claus, Rugrats (I love that they had Jewish holiday specials too! there was also a Passover one!), Grinch, Muppet Christmas Carol, Rudolph, Frosty, and Olive (though that last one was a while ago and I don't really remember it). And parts of Love Actually but not the whole way through.
So um, the only ones I HAVEN'T seen are A Muppet Family Christmas (I feel much shame over this), Noel, Rudolph's Shiny New Year, and Kim Possible.
Oh and fun fact: I've never seen Rudolph's Shiny New Year, yet I repeatedly referenced it in a "Roswell" fanfic once. *g*
Yeah, I mentioned the Rugrats Passover special in here somewhere, I think. I actually like that better than the Hanukkah one, or maybe I just remember it a little more. It's been quite a few years since I've seen Olive myself...maybe I should see if they're playing it this year, and watch it. YOU SHOULD TOTALLY WATCH ALL OF LOVE ACTUALLY IT IS AWESOME OMFGAAAAWD.
I've only watched 7 on your list, with the Kim Possible Christmas movie as something I remember watching, but I don't really remember the story.
I think I was in sixth grade when I first watched A Nightmare Before Christmas, and it wasn't during Christmas season. I remember thinking, 'why are the Halloween people taking over for Santa Claus?' I've appreciated it more when I grew older.
Also, I saw the live-action Grinch first before the animated Grinch. lol.
The Muppet's Christmas Carol is perhaps the only movie on your list that they show here in our country every Christmas...
The Kim Possible one wasn't aired as a movie but a regular episode of the series, though one that happened to fit in to the schedule right around Christmas obviously. Although I don't know if they changed that in other countries...
It takes a little age to get Nightmare I think, yeah. A lot of dark humor XD
NBX for the win :) Is this more of a Halloween movie, or a Christmas one? IDK either, but it's fantastic. And the Muppet Christmas Carol :) Some of these I've never seen air in the UK though I've seen Kim Possible because I love Disney Channel. I've not seen Love Actually though because while I love Bill Nighy I don't watch Hugh Grant movies :(
You really should watch Love Actually...there's a lot going on in it besides Hugh Grant's plotline, and you're missing out on a very lovely (and at times hilarious) movie really.
MANY a time have I googled and torrented, trying to find Muppet Family Christmas. OH HOW I WISH THEY WOULD RELEASE IT ON DVD! You can find clips online, but not the whole thing. I know I watched it.
Muppet's Letters to Santa was pretty funny, but Pepe the King Prawn always makes me laugh and there were some great outtakes at the end. They also did an "It's A WOnderful Life" parody with Fozzie wishing he had never been born...and the only reason I remember that is because of the scene where he is lost in the swamp and bumps into Yoda. Frank Oz <3
I impulsed purchased a copy of "Love Actually" yesterday. I know I'm going to cry when I watch it because I just love that movie so much. DID YOU KNOW that the guy who secretly loves Kiera Knightly is the guy from Walking Dead??? I just realized this yesterday and it was an OMG moment because I thought he was attractive in Walking Dead and I couldn't quite figure out why...it's totally Love Actually carryover hotness.
They can't release a full version of A Muppet Family Christmas because of rights over some of the songs they used, unfortunately. And I think now there'd be a big problem because the rights to the characters of Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock and The Muppets have all ended up in the hands of different companies.
GUH that's the same issue they have been having with The Muppet Show episodes too. And it's always for the most random songs - I think Season 2 was held up because of an old Gershwin tune! Bah-HUMBUG!
